Halloween
so had some wine and some candy with the little guy...
She ROX Bermuda
But with all that being said...
I cant believe there is going to be a race with water so late in the season.
Last night - I unsuccessfully did not make it to November - I turned on the heat. At 68F it has kicked on a few times. And when I went on my walk this morning there were all sorts of layers going on. So to think there will be outside swimming this weekend..
BBBrrrrrr....!!!!

Jagger revisited
For those of who saw me dancing on my birthday (just in case it is continuing to go unnoticed) you will know the Jagger song is in my head and wont get out.
But here is where I continue to pick on the song. Guess I am not fond of them capitalising on an icon. So whats with this take me by the tongue verse? How exactly do you do this? And if those are truly the words than my thought that the next line was kiss me on junk wouldnt have been too far off. And I think really? You take a musical talent in verse add a catchy dance beat and some Christina overtop... and still half the kids listening dont know who it is....
Today I thought I would assist and look for my fave pic of Mick. Well it is not really of him. It is his wrist. And it is more like a car wreck than appealing. I beleive the story is that in the midst of an Annie Leibovitz shoot he put his hand through a window. He cut his wrist open good. No luck finding her pic on the net. A Warhol pic of the sutures was out there but not what I was looking for.
So I gave up and went for a run.
Two nights running in the neighborhood behind the hotel. Flat. Some personal bests on distance. And no music.
Now at dinner... The Rolling Stones comes on. I know the song. All the words. It was released when I was in grade 3 or 4. There is a line about bring a case of wine that I thought was - if your rib cage is wide. I knew about ribs at that age not wine...
Anyways that is what prompted my revisiting Mr Levine.

Little break
Did not run or anything last night. Packed up car and went to bed. Something most likely someone woke me up a little after 11 and i tossed and turned for a bit. NOT FUN when you have your alarm set for 356...
It was a productive day even with the disrupted sleep. However i did find i gravitated towards the unhealthy when it came to eating. Just YUCK on McDonalds. I am aksays shocked at how gross it is.
Dinner was a salad with an OK dessert.
Didnt think my energy level would equate to a workiut but it did.2.5 miles yay me....
Now another early nigbt just coz i am tie-wed.

night time run...
well more so that i did not have the motivation to pack my gym bag...
so i ran around the neighborhood when i got home late last night...
my take away - WOW Halloween = the new Christmas lights...
who knew?
i enjoyed the run
but woke up with an odd foot pain around 309 this morning...
a little compression sock and ace bandage seemed to help
now off to work

run....
i was a bit more tired on this run - a little sore in spots, a little less motivated, and the mental game wasnt as strong...
i still did the 2 quarter mile runs - with the 3rd in the series just evading me...
then did 90 secs on and 90 secs off for a series of 3...
and then did the downhill runs home...
all felt OK
need to keep at it this week - just not sure how that is actually going to happen...

get on out there...
it appears the some of the systems and their settings interfer with my stats..
for example - the first run as per endomondo always ends up being the slowest mile - i think that even with the 60 second delay i am still getting acclimated with getting started by the time it kicks in...
i think i can deal with that...
then if i am running around town - the top of the hill gets messed up as the traffic around here has increased exponentially and i have to wait to be able to cross... i can stay on the sidewalk on this side of the street but that only gives me a mile at best... i have thought about just waiting until i am across the street to get started...
BUT then today I noticed that there are other parts along the road - like at the coffeehouse - where you yet again have to stop for traffic - now I understand the importance of all that - dont get me wrong ... i just need to come to terms with how it is interpretted in my stats.
from there - i got some new winter weather running shirts for my birthday.. they are wicking material with some thinner form of fleece on the inside and a hood... i wasnt sure how i would feel about it today as i headed out for my run - WOW - loved it! the thumb hole for the sleeve was a nice touch... the higher collar even without the hood up was good against cold drafts down the neck... and overall i was pretty darned warm... looking forward to using it again...
and lastly - I tried to push myself today... not sure it was an all out push but... i looked over some stats - noticed I had been averaging about 60 second of running with a 60 second break.. i decided to test myself on two fronts... the first part of the run - i calculated quarter mile distances thanks to mapmyrun... i succeeded with 2 out of the 3 quarter mile runs in that section... then i opted for 90 secs on 90 secs off... that worked out OK too... and at the end I found I ran even longer
Gonna try it again tomorrow and Monday...
not sure how the rest of the week will pan out with work travel etc and sleep deprivation with early hours...
do admit i am looking forward to some time away from home...
phew...
In a lower key but still true birthday fashion we went out... You know 2 years ago was the party on the new patio. That was fun to entertain in my home but lots of work. Last year was the pub crawl. That was not too much work just a bit of preparation and coordinating of the crowds. This year I wasnt really planning on doing anything so we just walked up the street to grab some food and drinks. The food was within reason as far as pub food is concerned... The drinks not so much - martinis, shots, beers... Good thing I only do that once in a while. My wallet, waistline and overall productivity would not survive if that lifestyle was more frequent. And I know from the crowd that there are some that this is something on a more frequent basis... I dont know how they function. Interestingly the pubs are doing their own form of pub crawl this evening. Promoting it as the first annual but we know who the real trend setter was last year...
So from the way I felt yesterday maybe it wasnt all that low key but the planning was minimal.
And I had a good time.
I spent the day lounging in the sun on my patio - it gets so hot out there in the summer that I dont venture out there all that often. But this time of year is downright pleasant. I spent most of that time and most of my whole day reading The Hunger Games. It came highly recommended by many people. And even though it is a young adult book I must admit I did find myself sucked in. A little like a Lord of the Flies of the future. A friend of a friend was telling me that it has a political message but to tell you the truth - unless you are an English professor (which she was) - it is lost on me.
I did finally break out of the rut and went for a run. I only did a mile. I thought I would go further BUT it was chillier out there than in the cover of my patio and I was not dressed warm enough. AND um about half a mile in my head said OUCH... hydration is key... But I am glad I got out there.
Grabbed a burrito at Moes to cure whatever ailed me. I havent been there in a while - it was tasty but still prefer Chipotle.
And ultimately finished reading The Hunger Games while taking a long hot bath. Sad to admit that the long aspect of the bath was because I got sucked into finishing the book. And the hot aspect of the bath was no longer applicable by the time I emerged from the water. Silly girl...
I went to bed at a decent hour and am now looking forward to a good day of multiple tasks...
I did step on the scale just to see what the damage was ... NOTHING!
thank goodness - I didnt want to be too hard on myself for my indiscressions

bummer
i guess my previous engagements with beer, wine, marshmallows, smores, pumpkin whoopie pies... i should not be too surprised...
today's goal was to be down a few more pounds..
today will entail more junk food and beer or wine (havent decided which yet) so...
TOMORROW - it is going to be another bike, run, swim combo
still contemplating the course for the bike ride in my head... and then trying to decide where to run...
the swim - i am hoping to stop by SCCL for that - we shall see...

4AM alarm...
this morning when i startled myself at 3:52am because I thought I had slept through my 4AM alarm... a different story...
i went to bed a little after 9... woke up around 940 and tossed and turned for almost an hour...
driving for 90 minutes in the pitch black and rain took its toll this morning - havent done much night driving these summer months - for obvious reasons - and havent done much rain driving either..
after speaking with various people over the course of the day - for the second day in a row -
i got back in my car for the 90 minute drive home...
gym bag packed and in the back seat...
i told myself - just get a mile out of you...
and if it needs to be just a walk then that's OK... or you could try to do at least a quarter of a mile at run...
about 45 mintues into the drive well the rain started again and about 20 mintues from home the sky opened up...
so now i sit on the couch - the untouched gym bag has been moved from the back seat to the bedroom..
i have had some soup and an apple for dinner and hope to make it to 9PM...
get back on pace for tomorrow...
and then start again next week

jogging backwards
and then i thought of this song - poor kids that dont know what this is referencing...
and then adam in his emaciated tatooed form has to dance around shirtless all over the video... sadly still does not even match mick... just saying... do like the song and could potentially add to my run mix
run
it was a good thing, i hadnt really been paying attention but all the running and swimming and biking has really been drying out my skin... i just keep feeling it as tight when i get out of the shower ... and wouldnt you know - there is a reason that i own so many products - it is because i have such dry skin and i really need to do something about it - like USE IT!!! it was amazing how nice my skin felt when it was all done...
again this morning - after last night's run, this mornings shower, and the chilly air outside.. could really use that product RIGHT NOW...
so now that I have added to that collection I really need to make the time for it... sounds silly maybe maybe not...
so the run - i mean are you really that interested in my ramblings about moisturizer
I went to the gym - i am quite proud of myself - i did 1 walk, 2 run x 4 for the first mile... i walked all of the second mile but was within the 15 minute mile pace...
so the 2 lap is my focus for this week...
of course today's will be a struggle as i need to be awake at 4am tomorrow
so it will be some commitment to get the sleep in and the run in...
there will be no $$ accumulated for the morning run this week unless i find a way to justify it at the end of the week.
next week may be just as difficult.

cycle
WOW there sure are some crazy hills over in that neighborhood..
the silliest thing about it all - i got a bit of a sun burn..
i thought as i was getting into the tub - nothing like a long hot bath to round a weekend of activity - that my face looked a little red.... but it wasnt until i was lying there in the tub and realised i have a very distinct tan line right above my knees from my tri shorts...
ooopss.... might want to go and yuck that sun screen back out from way under the bathroom sink...
this week is a transition to running - crazy i know

brain purge
so I am going to try to remember what those ramblings have been...
i could go on for pages about the whole occupy thing but my financial planner background has been upsetting too many people at this point... so we will keep it light out here..
i do have an observation about the right on red rule - sure, i know not all of you readers can actaully take advantage of the right on red law where you are... and i am beginning to think that it should be revoked.. my understanding was that you needed to come to a complete stop at your red light and then and only then if it is ALL clear you could proceed... all too often i see people not really stop - hello - a little dangerous if there is a car coming.... but the one that gets me the most - the intersection where it isnt all clear where it is just short of a gridlock situation and they roll on into the stopped traffic.. the last i checked that is not ALL CLEAR.... it just gets me...
on a totally different note - gym lockers and panties... i have a friend that encourages the packing of panties that should be on their way out when you travel and then instead of carrying dirty panties in your luggage you just throw them out and have a little more space in your luggage... these are to be packed in your suitcase or overnight bag... NOT in you gym bag... nothing worse than getting to the gym and realising the one and only place where strangers are going to see your under garments and you have the wrong set in the wrong bag... this hasnt happened to me but i think of it every morning when i get dressed and know i am headed for the gym and when i pack my gym bag...
and why do my bathing suits keep getting torn up? it seems the chlorine is just eating threw them way too quickly... my speedo top - my fave - is just starting to show some wear but my fun reebok boy short bottoms are really feeling the effects - i am beginning to think that quick dry thing in all locker rooms is a way to totally destroy your suits all the while you think you are doing something good for them... i suppose i should do a better job of tracking my usage as well - i imagine that has something to do with it...
and if that wasnt bad enough... when i left for ireland i had laid all my swim gear out on the chair in my bedroom... not too sure why - contemplating taking some of the peices with me, contemplated using that gym bag... for whatever reason the swim caps and goggles and stuff were sitting on the chair... i came home to find my one swim cap had melted into itself and the pillow it had been resting on... again must be something with the chlorine... if only i knew someone who knew something about polymers that could put some effort into some form of fiber that withstand the abuse of the chlorine in the pools... mind you i am all about the chlorine killing the germs...
hydration - i have purchased a couple of different forms of coconut water in the past month... i am prety hard core on the Naked variety... dont know why - I guess it was the first version I have had... well i tried some others that were flavored - problem being they have added sweeteners and sugars that counteract the potassium hydration AND usually have less potassium... i tried coco libre for the second time today - and i swear it has a cocoa flavor to it... now we all not chocolate and cocoa are not the same coco... so how is that chocolate flavor getting into it... i will be doing more research on that.... i am not onto water in my effort tohydrate...
well i am off to a friends house for a pre-bday dinner... i need to find something to where...
i am currently wearing my Stereophonics tshirt - sad that Wales lost today against France in the Rugby Cup semis... I think I may leave the tshirt on...
i also have shorts on - and as nice as it is right now sitting on my couch looking out the open windows and my blooming oleander, zinnia and dahlia.... i know all too well, the sun will go down and jeans will be needed...
Untitled by delbda at Garmin Connect - Details
first run around the neighborhood in a while...
i also covered 12 miles on the bike today
and 13x4 in the pool...
now for a little nap before a little bday celebration...

woo hoo - yay me!
during this time i have also slowly gotten myself back on track with walking, running, biking and swimming... ok the running could potentially fall at the end of the pecking order of things i've done but you get my point...
i have truly enjoyed my new routine of morning walks - although as i have noticed this week - red wine with friends for heartfelt conversation in the evening does not lend itself all too well with the AM walk... actually have missed the walk twice this week for that reason - and in hindsight i will say it was a very good reason...
i had fun with last week's trip to the gym and riding the stationary bike... i enjoyed riding my real bike...
this week i struggled with the swim but have gotten back into it quickly and am ramping up my distance at a good pace.... next week will see the run added back into the mix and will stay the predominant focus as i am adding some road races to my agenda between now and the end of the year...
if i want to do that mud run and the disney tri - i really need to get my running game in line...
with all of these pieces the focus has been to try to get back to eating better and exercising...
and as of today - 8 pounds later - i can thankfully say i am back to my weight pre-Thanksgiving stress that was laid down on my last year... it was a rough couple of months in there where the focus was definitely on other things all work related.. i am glad to have shed those 8 pounds... now there is another 8 to get down to RR-RH weight where I was last summer... yes in the midst of all last year's changes in the office and around home I did manage to gain 16 pounds - maybe even more if i had gotten on a scale when i got back from Ireland but we will just ignore that :)
with the birthday week - i will be a little more leniant (sp?) but not too much...
tonight I have to get that swim in that I missed last night...
this weekend i think i am going to try to hit up my mom's pool because of it's length - i really want to get in a mile... but i also want to do a whole bunch other stuff so we shall see...

swimming
monday night's swim was a bit of s a struggle... i felt guilty that i only made it for 15 minuts...
tonight was just short of 30 minutes... and back on track to where i want to be
and the most amazing aspect - OMG - left side breathing is starting to feel comfortable after 3 years of drills to get to that point...
i am all packed again for tomorrow... not sure it will happen... i am up at the Speedway for work... well near the Speedway - the perks of fanatical traffic are in my future... depending on that outcome will impact my arrival time to the gym and my ability to make it in the pool...
oh i am so going to admit this - and you, the super committed and obsessed one, will have to get a good laugh out of this... i dont want to do the yoga class because I shamefully do not want to miss the Vampire Diaries... OK stop laughing now
cycling
over the weekend i decided to take a ride near my mom's new house... i had thought about it all summer while they were building and finally decided to give it a try this weekend...
there were hills that i never really noticed while in the car..
but the biggest realization - wow, those power lines make a whole lot of buzzing and clicking when you ride under them.
thankfully they are not near my mom's house
it surely can't be good to live that close to them
Glad I got out when I did
This week starts some of the trickiness - today is a polymer day... but thankfully the commute is about the same to my office so no change in the gameplan - just need to make sure to stay on task to get out of the house on time...
Tomorrow is race day - this should be interesting. According to google maps the commute time is about 45 minutes. I hope that at that hour the traffic and race fans are minimal... It may however impact my morning walk...
So this morning I got up and out and it was a pleasant little mile walk...
Glad I got it out of the way - it sounds like it is pretty much pouring out there at this time.
This evening is swim time again.
Monday night I did 500 yards at the SCCL pool.
Last night was at the gym. I did 8x4 which translates to something around 700 yards.
This evening it will depend on my exit time from work... If on time then UA if not then SCCL.
This is SWIM WEEK!
Next week is back to run week.

swim
so it has been 2 months since I have been in the water...
wow - no wonder it felt so slow and heavy in the water
Friday, October 7, 2011
good morning
i stuck to my mission however and did get up and go walking this morning... i would like to say it helps to clear the head... i suppose it does... it sure makes you feel like you started off the day on the right foot
i have enjoyed the staionary bike at the gym too - it is somewhat easier to track pace and force myself through some exercises - especially since i dont own any really cool computer gadgets for my bike like others.... but hey if others are feeling generous, the birthday is right around the corner... i have been working on getting back to being comfortable with the whole riding thing... i hope to get on the bike tomorrow and Sunday... it is supposed to be a rather nice weekend and i am not sure how much longer thos will last... well before i have to invest in longer bike shorts... i guess those would be called pants at that point
i am trying to stay focused for the next 8 days... and then regroup...
i think it is going OK - i will tell from the scale come tomorrow morning...

biking and walking
AND i have been to the gym to ride the stationary bike all week except yesterday as well
i am continuing my obsession with trying to get my time down on the 8.05m distance
it is a random distance i know... but that's what the week started with so...
right now i am struggling with getting the garmin data to download from my watch to the ANT stick...errrr

UA - Bike - 8.05 miles in 36 minutes by delbda at Garmin Connect - Details
the stationary bike was good too... although i had somewhat forgotten the feel of sitting on those seats for so long.. not as comfy as the bike seats...
Untitled by delbda at Garmin Connect - Details
back into the run of it...
felt good...
knees are in check and everything...
but then again, ask me again tomorrow
Chilly
Well this mornings positive self talk revolved around it not being that cold. It said 39f on my phone. And it was cold upstairs. And it sure was cozy in bed. So that internal chat took some time. Then there were the layers - the crazy print fleece pants made their outside debut for this season along with a few layers and sweatshirt and windbreaker on top... and it was topped off eith ear warmers and gloves... a bit much? Maybe. Hard to say. I was warm. I did sweat some. It was a quick walk.
This evening I am trying to psyche myself up for a spin class. Actually that is my goal for this week. To try to make it to the 4 evening spin classes. The time is right if I can get out if work on time.
As for tbe chill... not sure when that is supposed to blow out of here. I am on a flower watch at the moment. Pretty soon the zinnia and lantana will have to be trimmed back. I have had grest luck with the oleanders in the ground this season so they too will need some TLC over the winter months. And the volunteer portulaca will need to be replaced with some pansies I supppose.

Faster pace
So I kicked around the house for a while - straightening, laundry and the such. Then I ventrued out to the Greenway. I havent been there in ages. I really hemmed and hawed (no sniff and scurry in this scenario) over going there. But I am so glad I made the effort. Sure there are other places that I could try but this is such a nice trail. AND today of all days - it wasnt that crowded. Thanks goodness. So down the trail I went.
Surprised myself with a run mix of 2 on 1 off for the first mile. The second mile was a little more as comfortable. The 2 miles back were mostly walks... I did sprint (or at least my version of a sprint during the ending LA LA LA LAlalalalalala part of KIDZ on my headset... It felt good but didnt make any marked change to my pace at that point.
It was just a good time.
From there I went to EarthFare and did some grocery shopping. Always a more fun experience than the mass production of HT. But had to go there too... odds and ends.. propane...
A good day.
Now to hydrate, stretch some more, and off to bed...
RFTC
To be out there with all those people! Have you seen any of the pics? It is amazing how many people were out there on such a good cause. There is one section where you circle around and pass others coming at you... You think you are in the back of the pack until you realise there are still crowds on the other side of the road...
And when you think about it... OK - when I think about it - sure I know one person that has died from esophageal cancer... and since it was my Dad it is a really big deal and really impactful on my life. But think of all the people that we all know that have been effected, diagnosed and the such with breast cancer. The numbers are amazing. The awareness even more so.
So glad I could do my part and get out on a beautiful October morning, take in the sites of the city I live in... and hope to motivate others to do the same.

Race for the Cure
In a last minute decision I decided to join a friend in the RFTC. So now it is 6am and I am sitting on her oh so comfy couch waiting. I got here a bit early. Never suspected as I was having wardrobe issues - i.e. my sports bra, hrm and I were at odds with another; the hrm and I won.
I havent run in quite some time. So we shall see how it goes. I played scenarios in my head last night as I tried to go ti sleep. Minute on/Minute off scenario. Or 10 strides on/10 strides off. The latter sure kicks in that heart rate.
We are taking the light rail into town.
Here we go!
