well yesterday went as planned - no training what-so-ever...
The vanilla whoopie pies and fruit filling went over really well... I have a picture on my phone - one day I may download that and get it posted here...
The same as the pics of the garden after I spent all that time last weekend weeding...
Today? Well I didnt get as good of a night's sleep as I would have liked. I think the sugar overload after avaoiding it for so long was part of it. My stomache was not very happy somewhere in the middle of the night. BUT it was the distant heat lightening and eventual slow moving thinderstorm that bothered me most. Thos BIG storms that are right overhead - they hardly ever bother me. Sleep right through them. But this... Just kept me tossing and turning....
And today - the roads are still wet, the humidity level is pretty darned high... so I will get some things done around the house and then think about it later.
At the moment we are getting ready for our house guest - laundry, dishes, water plants, clean little guys ears(OK most of this stuff is weekly but...), scooted the dining room table a bit in an effort to make some space for the interim boxes, will be doing the same upstairs a little later, plus moving a dresser from my closet into the guest room and some of the boxes out of that closet... I guess the bike should finally find a home in the shed too but...
so best get at it
Still in training. Not sure for what these days. But tracking my COVID quarantine.

Booty Call
Come on, you know when they named this event they were thinking stupid cliches like that would catch attention.... So Charlotte's 24 Hours of Booty is this weekend
http://www.24hoursofbooty.org/site/PageServer
I have yet to figure out how it works. I know there are teams and there are donations. I know the loop is not that long. I wonder if it is about distance or short bursts of speed between team members.
It will continue to intrigue me.
and when i googled the site - it started to auto-populate 24 hours of lemons - now that is just wierd

Baking
so today my normal routine has been disrupted for various reasons...
i need to bring my bike by the shop before next week's race and next week i am getting my hair cut so wanted to get it looked at this weekend - but they are only open on saturdays...
and instead of getting up and trying to fit in a ride with everything else, i decided to bake first thing instead...
i am pleased with the cake aspect of the vanilla whoopie pie - although it said it would yield 24 and i got 15... i think mine are too big... oh you can go so many places with that last sentence
and then the fruity creamy filling that looked so good in the picture? WOW!!! can you say sweet?!?!? I was thinking it would be more buttery but it truly is mostly confectioners sugar... the raspberry is a nice offset as it is not that sweet of a fruit but was thinking it would be a little less sweet...
so we will bring these to this evening's festivities but i think it will be a back to the drawing board process...
maybe i will make that my dessert of choice over the next 12 months...

it's been a while.... so i dont remember verbatim
but i hate to say i do agree

crazy crazy crazy
that is forewarning that my mood might still be out of check... nice, eh?
so this weekend I have so much to do....
tomorrow if i can get up early enough i could squeeze in a bike ride before needing to shower etc
get the bike to the shop just for a once over - i have put about 150 miles on it - want to have them look at it before race day
then there is a baby shower brunch
and then i need to drop forms off for the new house so they can set a closing time etc
not to mention going by the new house - this weeks mission is to make sure the patches in the concrete have been completed and the gap in the floor/wall in the master closet - oh and check out the cabinets that were to have arrived today...
then i also need to bake so vanillaa whoopie pies and makes raspberry cream filling
before heading to a friends house for a non-birthday cookout
all the while keeping my mood in check
Sunday i really need to cover the gamut of swim bike run
AND prep my house for my mom's arrival - i am unpacking one of my dresers and moving into her/the guest room as well as making room in that closet for her so she doesnt feel like she is living out of a suitcase for 8 weeks
and i think that could get me to Monday...
all the keeping my mood in check - - and there are some things that definitely have it out of wac at the moment..
OH that's right I wanted to yuck out some albums in the process and do some scanning - big anniversary next week i want to mark for those who wont make a big deal out of it for themselves
BUT 20 years IS a big deal...

guess i can expand...
TC - been somewhat reminded or informed that I can be a little cryptic at times and should be a little more straight forward on things out here...
the changes are - as of next week Bacchus & I will have a new roommate for about 6 or 7 weeks...
my mom is moving from NJ and the closing on her house up there is supposed to be Monday
she is staying with us while her house here is being completed
over the holidays she was down here for about that same amount of time so it shouldnt be too overwhelming...
in the midst of it all we are going to Ireland for 2 weeks but in the interim...
i signed up for a race at the end of this month in my continual quest to figure out how to run so that is the weekend before Ireland
and then when i bought the bike i became interested in finding another race to keep me motivaed to work out and train - so a few days after my mom arrives we are all (yes the dog too) driving to the coast for a small tri there...
and then of course one of my good friends wants to do a canopy tour for his birthday... i was hoping to put that off until it cools off but that seems like it is going to be scheduled in there too.... OH and I think the Giants are coming to town to play some football...
I should be plenty exhausted and tired by the time my birthday rolls around

no Pedicure~!
Over the past few weeks one of my friends and I keep saying - oh need to get a pedicure. And I still havent gotten around to it. This morning I was reminded why that may be a good thing. Oh sure the colour on my nails need some touch up but....
I was outside looking for the pup that thinks these days that he is a woodsmen... He drags his little limp legs up the hill and into the woods. I'd rather not think about what he is getting into up. But I found myself walking outside - not too sure where my flip flops ended up - bare foot.
YUP!!! And was reminded - in the transition from the swim to the pool - I will be running barefoot. I knew what the terrain was like in this past race but I am unsure as to this next race. So best to keep the pedicure until after She Tris.

speak your mind
i had learned a while back - that if something is on your mind it is best to speak your mind get it off you chest so to speak... and in the process it is to do just that - get it off your chest... the motivation of such things is not create drama or to create a tit for tat type of scenario... it is just to speak your mind in a tone as non-argumentative as possible... (or something like that)... and in that you should know that others may repsond differently than you anticipate... they may point out flaws to you... they may take it as personal criticism and be very angry... but since that should not be your intention, do not get sucked into that type of back and forth...
in all of it i prepare myself for silence - i have the resolve that my thoughts are valid and it is not to stir the pot... do not get sucked in... just silence... well CRAP! an apology? that wasn't on the radar...
YES - it may be the right response but had been prepped for something else... so thank you...
yes - these are things that go through my mind at 530AM as i walk through a darkened neighborhood
or 630PM as i stroke through a pool ---- random hot days on the bike? i think of all those gym teachers that geve me Cs....

Cup Match holiday...
Google it if you are unfamiliar with the holiday... it has me quite reminscent these days... at 20+ years it makes me a little sentimental... so tonight instead of swimming and running like i thought i might do
OK that's right i was thinking of going to see the Harry Potter movie - I hung out with KP over some wine and cheese and crackers...
it was a nice break to the week even if it wasnt part of the diet
tomorrow it is back to the swim and run

swim swim swim swim swim....
went to the gym today to swim
the pool was full but there was a girl paddling, wading in a bikini in the middle lane that offered to share
she had a knee injury and was using the pool to do some low impact activity
definitely an interesting lane to share - used to sharing with someone zooming by me
as i told her however - good to swim with crowds - it does get me prepared for race day
i was glad with the swim - i think my stride and stroke is coming back to its own
i felt stronger when i got in the pool for the first time this season - now it feels like it is flowing through the whole workout
now if i could only get the counting of the laps down- i always lose count
and i cant forget the dead cricket at the bottom of the pool

garmin still not working
it just needs a new battery... i thought i had a package of batteries but must have put the last one in my footpod... so i just need to swing by the store and get a new package... i think i am hesitating given the trouble i had the last time, realising that it wasnt the battery that was truly running low but an issue with the watch itself... and if i end up down that path again will i really be able to negotiate with garmin to replace this one? and if so, do I want to negotiate with garmin for a new one?...
interestingly i have found with my run i have pushed myself further this past saturday and last night when i was running... at the park on saturday i ran close to 6 minutes straight - i really didnt think that i did but the watch is still telling time...
last night i ran at the track - 1 walk, 2 run for the first mile, 1 walk, 1 run for the second mile - although i have noted i lose track of the count when i dont have the watch tracking my distance for me... i walked the 3rd mile...
i am planning on walking/running again tonight... packing the new tri shorts in an effort to get used to them in the run and the swim...
have lots of printing and binding to do for work so... not sure what hour i will cross the door of the gym... last night i worked later to avoid bad weather
and given the ice cream i had - some sort of ice cream social in the building - i had some added energy toward the end of the day - unfortuantely i did eat dinner when i came home and it was probably too late to eat dinner

Ambidexterous
You will have to forgive me on the spelling of that word - not one I use all that often. So today a new concept was shared with me for my training. I hadnt really given it any thought prior to today.
I have spent months trying to figure out left hand breathing... And to tell you the truth I think I am getting better at it. I feel like I get through the water faster than I had been. Actually I feel like I get through the water overall a lot smoother.
And I have worked on this. This two sided aspect of body, breathing, stroke and kick stuff.
SO why not do that on the bike?
What? I know.... Had not crossed my mind before.
But yesterday for the 3rd or 4th time on a Sunday ride I noticed my hip-flexor was quite tired. I notice it in the midst of the ride. My leg getting tired. And pretty much just the left leg.
Almost an hour into my ride I arrived at 3rd traffic light of the ride. I stretched my left leg down to the ground to balance. Ooouch... Feel that stretch... Wooo
I mentioned it to a friend today - who tried to show me a cool yoga stretch for my hip flexor - although I will have to google it because I have no idea what she did...
She suggested I try to switch up my leaning leg and starting foot...
GOOD IDEA!

food for thought
the 17 day diet is forcing me to try to be creative with the meals each week especially since saucy fatty and crunchy bready items arent on the list... there is a whole list of veggies that can be eaten... it just requires creativity - well at least that i is my thought in an effort to keep from getting bored...
so last night i sauteed brocoli with onion, green pepper and some dried apricot... it tasted pretty good...
i mixed some non-fat plain yogurt and mixed with curry powder to drizzle on top...
the grilled chicken was grilled chicken nothing too exciting
tonight i made turkey burgers and added grated carrot and zuchini to the ground turkey breast as well as some grated mozzerella ... to add additional flavor i used ground mustart and nutmeg...
i served that over a bed of lettuce with a sliced tomato and some green beans...
another pretty good meal...
tonight's dessert may be the rest of the Silk in the fridge... back to regular milk...

POP!
Given my continual British Pop culture obsession I feel somewhat obligated to comment on Amy Winehouse. The problem is I dont have much to say. I enjoyed her first 2 songs when they were released. I thought the retro style was fun. But as of late her headlines have been more about her battles with addiction so I am really not surprised. Kind of like the headline of Layne Staley all those years ago. A little bit of a train wreck that you see coming.
However one can only hope that this news sheds additional light on the struggles of addiction and maybe one more person will find the energy and inner strength to turn their lives around.

all 3 complete
today was the first day since the race that i did all three disciplines....
biked 9.75miles for 48 minutes at a pace slightly faster than 12 mph
went to the park - did a little run - still covering 2 miles in 28 minutes... i did however run for a good amount of time - OK close to almost 5 or 6 minutes
then did a swim at the gym - thankfully covered the race distance in 5 minutes - but added a few more lengths in there
almost a total 100 minutes in the workout
tomorrow i have been looking at a bike ride that could be close to 15 miles... we shall see how the heat treats me

bike ride on the horizon
Yes - I know - I was supposed to go to the gym again last night and didnt!!!
My friend called to say he was on his way out for a beer. I havent seen him since May or so and figured well that is a much better offer...
And it was. It was nice to catch up.
This morning is a bike ride instead. KP and I are headed to LTH neighborhood to ride. Somewhat similar to the loop I did last weekend without any Tom Short to the mix. I figure it will be just short of 10 miles. Would like to get that time down to close to 30 minutes but dont think that is in the cards for me today.
I need to get in the water and swim and run today as well. I guess I can head to the gym later in the day. Swimming in the outside pool with KP probably wont happen for a few reasons. Time. But also that pool will be so hot after this weather that we are having that I just cant muster feeling like i am sweating while swimming. I mean I know we do sweat while we swim but to actually feel it.

i didnt even realise that i was tired to that point but was...
took the little guy for a walk this morning - my sneaks still in the gym bag in the back of the car
PLUS he ate a dead snake last night and I am trying to encourage that to get out of his system sooner than later - like in his crate sometime today...
he has this tendency to NEVER chew anything .. so .. well... you get it....
